The return to power of the Taliban in August 2021 coincided with an initial phase marked by uncertainty and numerous episodes of violence, after which the situation progressively improved, at least in terms of security. The stabilization of the situation and, in particular, the significant improvement in security conditions have provided new impetus to tourism, especially in the districts of Bamiyan and Band-e Amir. However, this positive phenomenon of increasing tourist flows can be accompanied by problematic implications for territorial and social organization, as well as for the safeguarding of cultural heritage.
This project, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, aims to strengthen the capacity of the local system to address the challenges posed by the renewed increase in tourist flows, contributing to the development of strategic planning processes and activating investments in sustainable businesses and practices.
